Nurses Need Fun. What do YOU Do About it? Big Red Links #26

Posted by

We’re an extremely diverse lots, we who live and work in the BIg Tent that is nursing. We work hard under often daunting conditions. Sometimes we’re well rewarded well for efforts; other times we’re not treated so well as we deserve. Most of us bear up well; others fall prey to a soul sickness we call burnout. We do well to keep up our morale, our hope, our spirits.

Today’s theme seems important to me. Fun may seem to you the polar opposite of serious and important, but in context, given the pressure which nurses bear, fun is very important indeed.

But enough of my chit-chat. Five links in response to the question: what DO nurses so for fun?

  1. Thanks to Nancy Wilson: Roller derby girl thwarts mugging attempt by racing through freeway to chase down purse snatcher – The Washington Post.  And some heroics on the side!

3. What do I do for fun? Clearly I blog, and that makes for some good fun indeed! I also work as a nurse, and manage now and again to squeeze for fun out of it than most find possible. Absurdity makes grand comic material, and American health care is up to its armpits in that. I ski, less than I once did and slower perhaps, but it’s still magic. I bike, and I observe life, and I think over new angles, new ways of looking at things. And best of all, I mess around with my wife and daughter:

My daughter knows how!
My daughter knows how!
Ask Lily!
Ask Lily!
Speaking of embarrassment...
Oh, and I do Halloween too!!!
She even puts up with my nonsense!
Jen even puts up with my nonsense!

4… Well, well, that leave us two short, doesn’t it? A patient man would wait for two more examples to complete the set. A compromising man would simply offer three. Here what THIS man decides: I ask for your help, nurses. Tell me: what do YOU do for fun?

5. We’re waiting… Nurses who stick together, nurses who support each other, THOSE are strong nurses, successful nurses, happy nurses.

Keep on playing!
