I work in psychiatric nursing, so touching is at a minimum across the board. I work most in geriatrics, though, so there is far more physical care.

There will always be tension and confusion, as long as nursing views itself as women’s territory while taking on more men every day. It’s rarely been a problem for me, but I’m too unusual in many ways for categories or labels to contain or affect me. Perhaps that’s the reason it hasn’t been a problem for me?
