I Don’t Do Rules.

Posted by

A bit of self-disclosure:

I don’t like rules.

Actually,  I hate them,  to be honest.

Authority aggravates me, unless it’s my own.

I think for myself, trust my own judgment. Right or wrong, certainly sometimes wrong, that’s my inclination.
I choose my work accordingly. I will not spend much time where others insist on setting my path. Such is quite intolerable. I find it, right or wrong, offensive.

I try to rein in this instinct as appropriate,  but there it is.

I will not try to be who I am not.

I obey rules often, of course; not possible to get by otherwise. Don’t like it, but there we are. Life is full of hard decisions.

There are costs, risks, consequences.

So be it.

  1. lol even my own annoys me sometimes. I dont like bullies (like not even a little bit). at some points, i find it super easy to BE a bully. Im a firm believer that just because i can do something, doesnt mean you should. i too listen to my gut. there’s a reason i cant lose it-it serves a purpose

    1. Ironically, one of the most effective ways to tame a bully is to bully them, or dominate them in any case. Power is their language and value system. I’ve even diagnosed bullies that way: they respect power when others would take offense.

      1. Not so much anymore, although his teen years were a bit trying. He spent 6 1/2 years in the Navy, don’t ask me how he made it through, and although it made him hate rules all the more, he did learn how to deal with them without making things hard on himself. He’s now at university using the GI bill money he earned in the military and doing quite well! There’s definitely Irish in our genes (my maiden name is Hennigan, my paternal great-grandfather immigrated from Ireland) but not sure about Scottish. There’s Native American as well (my maternal great-grandmother was Choctaw). His dad was adopted though so we have no idea about his ancestry, but maybe some Scottish there!

  2. Same here! The restrictions can kill spirit. But so does the mess. πŸ™‚ Looking forward to a world where we won’t be needing them anymore. I think we create that world… but not through making more rules. πŸ˜‰
